How to Play

Getting the Basics Right

These are the habits that separate active managers from struggling ones.

Train after every match

This is the single most impactful thing you can do. Form drives everything: match performance, growth, and season updates. Training costs 100 Rivs per player.

Claim your weekly sponsor bonus

Free Rivs every week from the Finances page. Don't leave it unclaimed.

Set your lineup before every match

Check for injuries, suspensions, and form. A high-rated player in poor form can be worse than a lower-rated player in great form.

Play friendlies between league matches

Friendlies build player form, earn Rivs, and let you experiment with tactics without risking league points.

Write league articles

You can publish 1 article per day. Your first article each week earns 150 Rivs. It adds up quickly and is free to do.

Tactical Advice

Tactics are where you gain an edge over your opponents.

Scout your opponent before every match

Check their previous matches to learn their philosophy, formation, and strategies. If they always play Wing Plays, switch to Tighten Wings. Small adjustments win matches.

Match your strategy to your formation

Wing Plays works best when you have strong wide players. Through Balls works best with a strong central presence. Check your zone grid on the Tactics page.

Use roles wisely

Assign Captain to a Leader, Playmaker to an Intelligent player, and Free Kick taker to a specialist. These combos give significant in-match bonuses.

Don't ignore the referee

A strict referee with your Reckless defender on the pitch is asking for trouble. Check the ref's strictness and bench risky players if needed.

Time your subs around fatigue

If you're playing Gegenpress, bring subs on around 65-70 minutes. Against a Gegenpress team, wait until 70-75 minutes and capitalise on their tired players.

Attack the Byline against Park the Bus

Most players try Through Balls against defensive setups. Attack the Byline is often more effective because it gets behind the parked defence line.

Squad Building

Building a strong squad is a long-term game.

Invest early in your youth academy

Young players (15 to 20) grow much faster than peak age players. A low rated youngster with Hard Trainer and regular game time can become a star within two to three seasons.

Give youth real minutes

Young players barely develop if they don't play. Regular starters get a development bonus. Note: friendlies do not contribute to growth, so youth need league minutes to develop.

Balance your squad age

Players aged 25-29 have the best stamina and peak match performance. Young players tire faster but grow quicker. Older players decline and fatigue more. A good mix gives you strength now and development for the future.

Know when to sell veterans

Players aged 33+ decline regardless of performance. Sell aging stars while they still have value and invest in younger replacements.

Watch for traits on the transfer market

A player's traits can be more valuable than their raw rating. Hard Trainer, Leader, Intelligent, and Composed are high-value traits worth paying extra for.

Plan around negative traits

A Reckless defender against a strict referee is a red card waiting to happen. A Diva forward will hurt you when losing. Know your players' weaknesses.

Managing Your Finances

Prioritise training over transfers

Training your existing squad is far cheaper than buying new players. 100 Rivs per session keeps form high, which directly improves match performance.

Maximise your weekly income

Claim your sponsor bonus, write a league article for 150 Rivs (first one each week), and play friendlies (120 Rivs per win). These add up quickly.

Don't overbid in the transfer market

The auction uses second-price bidding, so you pay just above the second-highest bid. Bid your true maximum and let the system handle the rest.

Learning From Matches

Review the match analysis after every game

Check the tactics tab and stats to understand what worked and what didn't. Look at which zones were strong and where goals came from.

Watch the commentary for patterns

If all the chances are coming down one side, that zone is dominant. If your attacks keep getting blocked through the centre, the opponent's DC zone is too strong.

Check player energy levels

After a match, review each player's energy at full time. If key players are finishing exhausted, consider earlier subs or switching off Gegenpress.

Track your opponent's habits

Most managers have a preferred formation and philosophy. Before a league match, check their last 3-4 games. Information wins matches.
