How to Play

Zones & Positioning

In a nutshell

Every match is played across 9 zones, and where you place your players in the formation directly decides how strong each zone is.

The 9 Zones

The pitch is divided into a 3x3 grid. Zone names use row-first abbreviations (e.g. AL = Attack Left) so they're never confused with player positions like LM or CM.

AL Att Left
AC Att Centre
AR Att Right
ML Mid Left
MC Mid Centre
MR Mid Right
DL Def Left
DC Def Centre
DR Def Right

How Positioning Works

Each formation slot has a position on the pitch (RB, LB, CB, RM, LM, CDM, etc.) determined by where the formation places it. A player placed in that slot contributes their rating primarily to the zone they're closest to.

Wide midfielders (LM, RM) contribute a significant portion of their rating into the attack zone on their side.

Deep midfielders (CDM) contribute a significant portion of their rating into the defence zones. A strong CDM acts as a defensive shield.

Central midfielders (CM) contribute purely to midfield control.

Preferred Foot

Every player has a preferred foot: left, right, or both. This matters for wide positions only.

Wrong side playing a player on the wrong side reduces their zone contribution noticeably.

Both footed players (less common) can play either side with no penalty.

Centre positions (CB, CM, CDM, ST, GK) are unaffected by foot preference.

Pitch Control & Matches

Each attack in a match targets a specific zone: left, centre, or right. Your Att Left (AL) goes against the opponent's Def Right (DR), and vice versa.

Strategy & Zone Synergies

Wing Plays + Strong Wide Players

Place your best forwards and midfielders in wide positions (LW, RW, LM, RM) to maximise the attack zones that Wing Plays targets. Wide midfielders bleed into attack zones, making this a double boost.

Through Balls + Strong Centre

Load your central positions (CM, CDM, ST) with your strongest players. The centre attack zone is what matters most here.

Tighten Wings + Strong Fullbacks

Strengthens wide defensive zones but slightly weakens the centre. Pair with your best defenders at LB and RB to shut down Wing Plays.

Tighten Centre + Strong Centre backs

Significantly strengthens the central defensive zone but slightly weakens the flanks. Stack your best defenders centrally to become a wall against Through Balls.

Channel Alignment

Offensive strategies are most effective when the attack goes through the matching channel. Stack the zones that match your strategy.

What to do

Pick the strategy you want to play, then stack your strongest players into the zones it targets so your formation and tactics pull in the same direction.
